About The Lions Cricket Club

The Lions is a cricket club for children aged 12 - 19 in Central and Southern Tokyo. Through its affiliation with the British School in Tokyo it is based at the BST Nagasawa Ground where training and games are held most weekends in March - June and September - November.

Although many of the players attend the British School in Tokyo, the Lions is open to anyone, male or female, between the ages of 12 - 19. We are always looking for new players to join our club.

Can I try out the Lions before joining?

Are you interested in taking up Cricket but unsure if you would like being a part of a Club? Do you want to try out Cricket before making the commitment of joining a Club?

You can attend one of our regular training and practice sessions with no commitment to join the club - please contact us to arrange your visit.

How much does it cost to Join?

In the 2023 season full membership of the Lions will be 30,000 Yen. This fee includes:

  • Fees for ground and training venue
  • Use of club equipment (bats, balls, pads, helmets)
  • Bus travel from Sangenjaya to BST Nagasawa for each training session and home matches;
  • Bus travel from Sangenjaya to other grounds for away matches;
  • Coaching fees;
  • Sports Insurance.

Players in the team may be expected to purchase a team kit and will be required to register with the Japan Cricket Association.

A partial refund of up to 10,000 yen is available where parents contribute for a minimum number of training or match days (training support, match scoring, ground setup, umpiring, &c)

How often do the Lions Train and Play

The Lions training and match period runs in two periods each year:

  • March - July
  • September - November

weekends during these periods typically see a match or a training session, with around 10-12 games and 10-15 training sessions run per year.

Training sessions run for 2 hours, although we hope to expand these to 3 hours from 2023 if we can secure BST Nagasawa for longer.

The Lions also participate in several other Cricket events each year.
