July 15th, Lions U19 Vs AQCC U19

Lions U19 vs AQCC 20230715
It was an absolute pleasure to watch the all conquering Lions sweep aside the Alpha Quashers in a splendid Saturday afternoon of cricket.

Timmy lost the toss and the Alpha Quashers elected to bowl.

Our newest recruit, Tomo Rear and the ever reliable Nihar Parmar strode to the middle and got us off at a cracking pace. Both hit the gaps with some lovely stroke play but were also able to take advantage of some poor bowling to hit 6s and 4s all around the ground.

With the score at 149, Nihar was caught out on 54 and Alex Dawson, our Scottish import and former Lions junior, strode to the centre wicket to take guard. Alex took off with a quick fire 18 of 18 balls and a massive 6 over mid wicket.

The batting honours of course go to Tomo Rear, our first ever Lions centurion! There wasn’t a safe place for the Quashers bowlers to pitch their deliveries and they took an absolute hammering. The Quashers had Aditya Phadke who has just returned from the under 19s World Cup in Darwin where he took a hat trick, so there was some quality. It was lovely to be out in the middle umpiring and witness Tomo’s superb batting performance. Well done Tomo.

After 20 overs the Lions had amassed a whopping 1/220.

With the new ball in hand Timmy went to work, removing the Quashers opener with his third delivery. Our quicks were all line and length, with Nihar (0/12 off 3), Alex (0/13 off 2), Tomo 1/ 5 off 1 and Kirren 0/14 off 1) all showing their usual fire.

Captain Timmy then turned to the offies of our England summer import and  former Lions junior, Luke Sloman, and the ever reliable leggies of Juto. The Quashers were in pieces, with Juto finishing with 3/12 off 2 (removing the Captain and opener Aditya who was plum) and Luke carving up the tail with 3/4 off 2. The fielding was tight with Kirren taking a catch at mid on, Nihar effecting a direct hit run out and Taiga behind the stumps keeping the extras to a minimum.

After 12 overs, the Quashers were all out for 67. An emphatic Lions victory.
