November 16th 2024, Lions U19 vs Sano Braves U19

After the loss against the Falcons we had to move from the SICG to the Sano River Ground. After a 30 minute bus trip, the Lions strode off the bus, confident they could beat the Sano Braves again. The Lions had their tales up! 

 

Tim again won the toss and elected to bowl.

 

This time our bowling was much better than the morning match. Tim leading from the front with 0-14 off 4 with 2 maiden offers. This put the pressure on the Braves who started to crumble at the Lions spin duo of Juto and Mantra. Juto upped his pace, ripping it through and seeing the Braves opener go, again, bowled Juto, stumped Taiga. Juto finishing with 1-16 off 4. Mantra was fantastic taking the wickets of batters 2, 3 and 4! Eric again taking some amazing catches to move us in the right direction. Catches certainly do win matches! Mantra finishing with 3-27 off 4! Eric then cleaned up the tail enders finishing with 2-28 off 3, well supported by the bowling of Kirren, Sam and Pratyush. 

 

After 20 overs, the Braves had 6-122.

 

Tim and Kirren opened the batting and with the score on 7 Kirren looked to turn one down to fine leg but a leading edge saw him caught at gully. Taiga strode to the middle and with the power hitting of Tim, the score got to 82 with Taiga being run out after an amazing direct hit from the Braves fielder at deep mid-wicket. The ever reliable Eric then took centre and Tim and Eric got us back on track, but with the number of overs ebbing away, Tim skied one and was caught out. Tim with a captains knock of 68 off 60, with nine x 4s and one x 6. 

 

It was all up to Eric and Nived. With 3 overs left, we needed 13. With some amazing calling and running between the wickets and a bit of luck (the Sano fielders kept missing some pretty straight forward run outs)  Eric and Nived got us over the line with 4 ball’s remaining!
