October 13th 2024, Lions U19 vs GIIS U19
What a match! The Lions certainly had their revenge having gone down in the u15 finals to GIIS in 2023!
Tim won the toss and elected to bat and Tim and Kirren got us off to a flier. Kirren was rotating the strike well and Tim was power hitting. A pleasure to watch.
The Lions were looking great until Kirren was given out LBW for 13 in the 8th over, which brought Taiga to the crease. From here Tim and Taiga went on a scoring frenzy! Tim eventually retired with 100 off 59 balls which included 5 x 6s and 10 x 4s. Congratulations Tim for your first century! Juto joined Taiga and with Taiga on 36 with 2 overs left he took to the bowling, reaching his first 50 off 36 balls which included 4 x 6s and 2 x 4s. Congratulations to Taiga too for your first 50.
After 20 overs, the Lions had amassed 1/199!
The GIIS openers then took centre, but their best batsman, their captain and u19s Japan team member, hit a screamer to Kirren who took an amazing catch around his ankles. After that, there was a steady succession of wickets with the Lions taking all their catches (well done Kirren for taking 2 catches and Juto with 1), Taiga with a lightening like stumping too. Nived and Juto were the pick of the bowlers with 3/8 off 2 and 3/3 off 2 respectively. Pratyush chipping in with 1/5 off 2 and Sam the speed demon with 0/12 off 2.
GIIS all out for 29.
For once, we had perfect cricket weather! It was a very nice match played in a friendly atmosphere. The spirit of cricket was alive and well in Sano. Well done the Lions.
