It was a hot day on Monday for our 2 matches, but luckily the cloud stopped the temperature getting above the low 30`s.

Lions u19 vs Takeda 20230731

Match 1, Takeda U19 vs Lion's U19

Out first match against Takeda was an overwhelming one for the opposition, and relatively easy for the Lion's, who dominated. Having won the toss Takeda opted to bat first, but our bowlers quickly got to work and dismissed 9 of Takeda`s 10 players, ending their innings, within 9 overs. Nitin taking 3 overs, Luke and Noah 2 apiece and 1 for Juto. Noah`s wickets came from 2 balls with no runs scored, giving him an economy of zero!

Our 2 opening batters, Vijay and Juto then went to work and scored the required 37 runs within 5 overs, neither batsman getting out. Juto was the top scorer with 13 runs and Vijay close behind on 11; both players were a little frustrated by the number of wide and no balls that they could not play, but they maintained good cricket form by not losing patience and swinging at risky shots.

Stats: Highest scoring batsman : Juto (13), best batting strike rate : Juto (130), most wickets : Nitin (3-6), best bowling economy : Noah (0.0).

Player of the Match: Juto

Team: Alex Dawson (Wicket Keeper), Jamie Urano Fordyce, Juto Ball, Kirren Hollow, Luke Sloman, Nihar Parmar, Nitin Chathrapathi Saravanakumar, Noah Michalski, Timothy Moore (Captain), Tomo Rear, Vijay An.

Match 2, Lion's U19 vs KKR U19

Our second match against KKR was also dominated by the Lions, but this time we won the toss and were able to bat first. Our batsman put up an excellent score of 211, with 101 of the runs coming from Tomo, who gets his second hundred in as many innings and also retired not out! Timmy got 51 before being bowled whilst trying a risky sweep shot, which was probably Karma as it came right after he hit a thumping drive that bounced off the bowler`s foot and knocked over the stumps at the non-strikers end to run out Jamie. Noah also made a long awaited return to the side and showed some of his old form by hitting 19 off 13 balls, including 3 fours.

The Lions bowlers dismissed KKR within 12 overs, for a total of 89, with Nihar, Kirren, and Juto getting a wicket each and Tomo getting 3. Jamie threw an excellent long ball to Alex for a run out and he caught a great slip catch from one of Kirren`s bowls.

Stats: Highest scoring batsman : Tomo (101), best batting strike rate : Tomo (220), most wickets : Tomo (3-9), best bowling economy : Tomo (4.5).
