The Lions won the toss and decided to bat first, with Nihar and Nitin opening. Despite some good efforts by Akishima`s star bowler Masato Morita (19 runs off 4 overs), Nihar & Nitin started to build a good score. Nitin had to retire not out in the 9th over because of the heat, at which point the Lions were 64/0. Tomo then came into bat at number 3 and scored 14 in his first over. From this point the run rate picked up and in the 14th over Nihar passed 50, retiring not-out at the end of the over on 5o, to be replaced by Luke. In the 16th Over Tomo passed 50 and retired not out on 56 to be replaced by Vijay. By the 19th over the Lions had passed 180, but Luke was bowled in the same over - the sole Lion`s wicket for the day. At the end of 20 overs Lions had a score of 197/1.
In bowling the Lions opted to allow everyone to bowl at least one over, with Nihar and Alex taking turns to perform wicket keeping duty. Kanato, playing his first U19 game bowled 2 overs and looked like he was thoroughly enjoying the experience. Vijay and Nihar picked up 1 and 2 wickets respectively and Nitin had the second best economy of the team at 2.0, however the star performer was Luke taking 5 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs (economy 1.5).
